Antiques to Vintage Magazine Releases Spring Issue, Summer Mag Well Underway

The magazine provides snippets of what’s in store in the latest issue as well as what to look forward to in its next release.

Australia, 24th Oct 2023 – Antiques to Vintage Magazine, Australia’s favourite antiques and collectables magazine, has recently released its much awaited Spring 2023 issue and is already preparing its upcoming Summer magazine. The magazine, which has had fascinating transformations through the years, also revealed how it collates contents for each release.

Antiques to Vintage Magazine’s spring issue, currently on display and available in newsagents everywhere as well as through direct subscription, provides plenty of interesting articles to enjoy on spring afternoons. “We were delighted to be able to highlight, among others, ‘The Cabbage Lady’ with her vegetable ceramics in the Spring magazine,” Julie Carter, editor of Antiques to Vintage Magazine, remarked.

The Upcoming Summer Issue

Fresh from sharing delightful stories in its Spring magazine, Antiques to Vintage Magazine is now working on an exciting Summer issue.

“The Summer magazine is already well underway and we’ve got some very summery subjects! They include the ultimate English beachside experience of watching Punch and Judy, as well as the story of Corgi beach buggies, sundials and – for the summer entertainers – cocktail shakers,” Julie Carter stated. “It’s a bit of a sister issue, too – we’re working on features on the Australian Gore sisters, who made amazing figures of cattle from their remote farm, and also the Doughty sisters who worked at Royal Worcester and produced some gorgeous figurines,” she added.

Coming Up With Contents For The Magazine

When asked about how Antiques to Vintage Magazine comes up with contents, Julie Carter replied, “We like to have some content that’s relevant to the season. Sometimes it’s just something we’ve come across during our research – the hair receiver, for instance. It’s a quirky little item with a story that was perfect for the magazine.”

Julie Carter has been working in the antique publishing sector since 1984. During that time, she’s already worked on hundreds of magazines, many books, antique fairs (the business used to run a Giant Antiques Fairs circuit in the late 1980s and early 1990s), TV programmes and a couple of live shows. “I love the world of antiques and collectables and the magazine reflects that,” she commented.

For Julie Carter, it’s her mission that in each issue of Antiques to Vintage, there will be several snippets of information that are entirely new to the readers. “At least one subject in the magazine they get to read about that they would otherwise not have thought to learn about,” she explained. “I love finding little extras to add into the features, selecting stunning images and scouring the world for interesting, quirky and informative content.”

Keeping An Eye On Exhibitions & Sales

Antiques to Vintage Magazine keeps an eye on exhibitions and sales in the antiques world to be able to tie in a feature with an upcoming special event, or to report on important sales. According to the magazine, ‘Stuart Style and Bridgerton Flounces’ was inspired by an exhibition on Georgian clothing at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and ‘A Pioneer in Plywood’ links in to some recent interesting auction results for furniture designed by Gerald Summers in the 1930s and ‘40s.

The Magazine’s Evolution

First known as the Illustrated Antique Trader, the magazine’s then owner and antique dealer Neville Byrne envisaged it as a Trading Post for antiques. When Alan Carter bought it in 1984, he decided to add more editorial, and expanded into colour pages and interiors. In 2004, the magazine became the business of Julie and her sister Christine Carter, who changed the name to Antiques and Collectables for Pleasure & Profit. In 2020, after Christine left the business, it rebranded, finally evolving into Antiques to Vintage Magazine.
